The exact boundaries of the Warrendale neighborhood change a little bit, depending on who one asks. For purposes of this blog, I define "Warrendale" as that portion of the city of Detroit that is bounded by Joy Road to the north, Ford Road to the south, Greenfield to the east, and Rouge Park to the west. These, by the way, are the approximate borders of the former Warrendale Township, which was dissolved and incorporated into Detroit back in the 1920s.

What makes the Warrendale neighborhood unique, from the standpoint of its location, is that it is bounded on two sides by the city of Dearborn, Michigan and on a third side by Dearborn Heights. It is essentially a peninsula of urban life that is surrounded on three sides by suburbs.
These boundaries, I should point out, include the area east of the Southfield Freeway that is sometimes referred to as WACO, Gardenview, or Herman Gardens in the definitions offered by others. Once upon a time, the entire area was Warrendale Township and both sides of the freeway have a similar history and feel to them.
Together this area represents almost four square miles of history, culture, and community.
